Shakespeare superheroes

Shakespeare Superheroes is a two-week summer camp designed to introduce students to the language, stories, characters, and ideas in Shakespeare’s plays in imaginative and playful ways.

Students are introduced to theater, imagination skills, public speaking, creative play, and the literature that they will study in three of four years of high school. Camp activities specifically geared for young actors incorporating voice, movement, and acting enable students to explore Shakespeare’s text emotionally, physically, and intellectually. Daily recess, a pizza party, and arts and crafts activities are all part of Superheroes camp for a well-rounded experience.

We offer multiple sessions of Superheroes each summer at the Atlanta Shakespeare Tavern Playhouse and at Atlanta Friends Meeting House in Decatur. To ensure that students have the chance to learn alongside their peers, we offer sessions for rising second through fifth graders and sessions for rising sixth through eighth graders. During each session, each group of up to sixteen students are led through an exploration of selected Shakespeare plays by three professional Teaching Artists. Camp meets Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. On the final day of each session, students perform on the Shakespeare Tavern Playhouse professional stage for family and friends. After-care is available for an additional fee from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. every day, except for the final performance day.

Early tuition is $495 per student until March 1, 2020. Tuition will be $545 per student after March 1, 2020.

Some sessions of Superheroes will take place at the Atlanta Friends Meeting House, located at 701 West Howard Avenue Decatur, Georgia 30030, while some sessions will take place at the Shakespeare Tavern Playhouse.
