Matinees

We invite students and their teachers to attend matinee and evening performances at the Shakespeare Tavern Playhouse.

Matinee Performances

During the 2019-2020 season, we will offer weekday matinees of Macbeth, A Christmas Carol, Romeo and Juliet, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Hamlet for student audiences at 10 a.m. on select Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

Matinee Student Ticket Policies

Tickets for groups of 100 or more students are $16.00 each and may be paid in two installments. A nonrefundable $500 deposit is due upon receipt of the invoice. The remaining balance is due thirty days before the performance. Tickets for groups of 100 or fewer students are $16.00 each and must be prepaid in full one month prior to the performance date.

For every twenty-five student tickets purchased, we will provide one free adult ticket. We recommend at least one adult chaperone for every twenty-five students. $16 tickets are available for all additional teachers, parents, bus drivers, and chaperones.

Ticket sales are tax exempt if paid by school check or school credit card; otherwise 8% Fulton County sales tax will be added. Tickets are nonrefundable.

Invoices will be mailed to you for your records and to ensure the accuracy of your reservation information. The number of tickets requested is not guaranteed until full payment has been received. If we do not receive payment by the due date, we may be forced to cancel or reschedule your group.

You may cancel your reservations by returning your invoice to us with “cancel” written on the invoice. Cancellations must be received no later than thirty days before the performance date.

To book group tickets to a weekday matinee, please review the matinee calendar for the 2019-2020 season and call the Atlanta Shakespeare Company Box Office at 404-874-5299 x 0 or email boxoffice@shakespearetavern.com. Matinee and Group tickets are not available for purchase online. If the matinees for the play you would like to see are sold out, please call or email the Box Office to book tickets for an evening show or to have your group added to the matinee waiting list.

Additional Matinee Policies

Seating

Seating is done on a first come, first served basis. The schools that arrive first will generally be seated on the main floor while schools arriving later will generally be seated in the balcony. Students in all seating sections will have an excellent view of the stage. For matinees, seating begins at 9:30 a.m., and the performance begins at 10 a.m.

Lunch

If you would like your students to be able to eat a lunch while they are attending a matinee performance, there are two options. You may:

  • Pre-order box lunches through the box office when booking your matinee tickets.

  • Have your students bring their own sack lunches.

Lunches may be eaten in the theater at intermission.

Please help us keep the Shakespeare Tavern Playhouse clean by instructing your students to throw their trash away in the garbage cans located throughout the theater or the lobby.

Students may not leave the building during the play to get lunch at a nearby restaurant. If you would like your students to eat at a restaurant, please arrange for your buses to take them to the restaurant of your choice after the play.

Chaperones

Please have the appropriate number of chaperones, and please make sure that chaperones understand that they are here not just to see the play, but most importantly, to keep an eye on the students. We recommend at least one chaperone for every twenty-five students.

Chaperones play an important role in ensuring good behavior from student groups. Therefore it is vital that chaperones sit with, and throughout, your student group instead of together, in small clusters, away from your students.

Student Etiquette

Please distribute copies of “Off the Page and Onto the Stage: A Student Guide to the Shakespeare Tavern,” which can be found under the Educator Resources page, to your students. Please review this guide completely with your students and ensure that everyone understands what is and is not acceptable behavior when coming to an ASC show.

Please remind students that using cell phones is prohibited during the play. Any devices used by students during the show will be confiscated and only a teacher will be able to retrieve the device after the show.

ASC reserves the right to dismiss any student or school that causes damage to ASC property, endangers the safety of an actor by throwing objects at the stage, or due to any grossly disruptive behavior.

Evening Performances

We are pleased to welcome student groups to evening performances at the Shakespeare Tavern Playhouse. Groups of students and their teachers or chaperones are most easily accommodated at the 7:30 p.m. performance on Thursday evenings and the 6:30 p.m. performance on Sunday evenings.

Evening Student Ticket Policies

On Thursday, Friday and Sunday evenings, students may receive $5 off the adult ticket price for all seats. No discounts are available on Saturday nights.

On Friday evenings, students may receive $5 off the adult ticket price in any of our three seating areas (Main Floor, Box Seats or Balcony). The $5 discount is also available for teachers, parents, bus drivers, and chaperones at those evening performances.

There are no ticket discounts on Saturday nights.

Pre-payment is required. You may either pay with a credit card at the time of reservation, or we will mail an invoice to the school, which will be due no later than two weeks before the performance. A reservation without a credit card must be paid by cash or check within seven days of making the reservation, after which we will release the tickets. Tickets are nonrefundable.

For evening performances, seating begins at 6:15 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays and at 5:15 p.m. on Sundays.
